Hosted dock setup

Set it up once, read forever.

Have OBS Studio and your Multistream.id account ready. Pairing is only needed the first time you open the dock on that computer.

  1. 01

    Install OBS Studio

Download OBS Studio from its official site and finish the installation for your operating system. Use the official OBS Studio download page for Windows, macOS, or Linux.

    No native plugin required

This dock is a hosted web page opened through OBS Custom Browser Docks. There is no Multistream installer, local helper, or Node server to run.

  2. 02

    Connect your chat accounts

Sign in to the Multistream.id dashboard, then open OBS → Platform Accounts. Connect the YouTube and Twitch accounts whose chat you want to display.

OAuth is used for read-only chat access. Platform tokens are stored and processed by the Multistream backend, never in the URL, OBS settings, or dock page.

  3. 03

    Add a Custom Browser Dock

In OBS Studio, open Docks, choose Custom Browser Docks..., then add a dock with this name and URL. Click Apply and place the panel where it fits your workspace.

    • Dock name: Multistream Chat
    • URL: https://app.multistream.id/obs/chat
    • Drag, dock, and resize the panel whenever you need.
  4. 04

Pair the dock with your account

When it opens for the first time, the dock shows a short pairing code. Copy the eight-character code, open https://app.multistream.id/obs/pair in a browser already signed in to the dashboard, then enter the code and confirm the OBS device.

    Example pairing codeAB7K2Q9M
    Dock-only session

The code works once and then expires. After pairing, the dock receives an HttpOnly session scoped to chat. Platform tokens and stream keys are never sent to the OBS browser.

  5. 05

    Check chat and start streaming

After pairing, YouTube and Twitch show as connected. Use the platform filter to focus on one chat, or choose All to view the combined conversation.

    • New messages arrive automatically through an SSE connection.
    • If the connection drops, the dock attempts to reconnect.
    • Resize the panel to roughly 280–600 px for your OBS workspace.

Read-only chat and stream delivery are separate. To broadcast video, continue using the Stream to OBS dashboard flow and your configured RTMP destinations. Adding the chat dock does not change an existing stream key or destination.

RTMP ingest & destination setup

1. Enter the RTMP server and stream key in OBS

Open OBS Studio > Settings > Stream. Choose Service Custom..., then enter the Multistream relay server (for example, rtmp://sgp.multistream.id/live) and the stream key from the Ingest tab in your dashboard.

2. Connect your destination platforms

In the dashboard Destinations tab, add YouTube Live, Twitch, or Facebook Live. Paste each destination stream key and enable the destination before starting the OBS stream.

Troubleshooting & solutions

Bitrate drops or dropped frames

Keep OBS bitrate within your plan limit (4 Mbps Free, 6 Mbps Starter, 8 Mbps Creator). Use the closest Singapore relay for the lowest latency.

Plan quota runs out during a stream

When monthly quota is used, the relay stops distribution to prevent unexpected overage. Check Usage in the dashboard or upgrade your plan.

Pairing code expired

Close or refresh the dock for a new code. Confirm it has not been used and that your browser is signed in to the correct Multistream account.

Chat is not appearing

Return to Platform Accounts and make sure YouTube or Twitch is connected and has an active live chat.

Platform disconnected

Reconnect the account from the dashboard. A revoked OAuth grant or suspended account cannot send messages to the dock until access is restored.

Panel is too narrow

Drag the OBS dock edge to about 280 px or wider. Filters and messages adapt to the panel width.
